TAILBACKS: serious RTA causes major delays and closes N-332.
ONE man had died and another five people, including a baby, were injured in an accident on the N-332. The accident happened during the lunch time rush at kilometre 81 of the N-332 by the Salinas of Santa Pola when it is believed a van swerved over the centre of the road and collided with a car.
Guardia Civil and Policia Local were soon on the scene followed by fire fighters from Elche who intervened to free two occupants from a vehicle. The 65 year-old Dutch driver of the car was killed. His 16-month old grandchild suffered serious head injuries and was transferred to Alicante General Hospital. The other four suffered bruises and minor injuries and were transported to Torrevieja and Elche Hospitals.
The accident brought the busy main road to a stand still and it was completely closed between Santa Pola and La Marina as the casualties were dealt with. Police were at every exit from Santa Pola preventing vehicles from entering the N-332 heading south towards La Marina and Torrevieja while the backlog of traffic caught up in the accident was told to turn around by police and redirected.
