Superstars to visit as big time beckons

THE big guns of Barcelona and Real Madrid football clubs will be visiting the province next season after UD Almeria clinched promotion to the Primera Liga.

It will be a chance to see some of the best players in world football when the likes of superstars Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo visit the city’s Stadium of los Juegos Mediterraneos next season.

After two seasons outside the top flight, Almeria earned a well deserved place back in the Primera Liga with an emphatic 3-0 win over Girona in the second leg of the play off final.

Now sporting directorAlberto Benito Castañeda, has been rewarded with a new contract that will give him the chance to lead the club in the top division.

The 41-year-old first arrived at the club in the 2007 season, and since then has been handed a series of short term contracts. He has now been given another one-year deal following the expiry of his present contract.

At the match euphoric fans invaded the pitch at the final whistle, and fireworks helped them celebrate a return to the footballing elite.

At midnight the players took an open top bus parade through the main streets of Almeria city to celebrate their achievement.
