Santa Maria Church in Albox gets a facelift

MAJOR WORK: Church of Santa Maria to get a makeover

A MAJOR restoration of the Church of Santa Maria in Albox has now begun.

The XVIII Century Church, which is situated in the town square, has been visibly deteroriating in recent years and has suffered a number of incidents where parts of the cornices and facade have fallen into the street below causing a danger to the general public.

Work has begun inside the church with a new floor being laid which has meant a great deal of the furniture has had to be removed from the inside of the building. Work is expected to start on the exterior of the building soon.

The majority of the funding of the works is being provided by the Ecclesiastical Institution with an investment of €300.000 and the remainder from the Provincial Plans of Albox Town Hall. The overall cost is expected to exceed €400.000.

For people who wish to attend Mass, a temporary place of worship has been arranged in premises in Calle Ramon y Cajal in the town centre.
