IN HOT SEAT: Fernando Aparicio ready to tackle those mosquitoes.
THE fight is on to tackle those dreaded mosquitoes.
Specialist company Lokimica has begun an intensive campaign of fumigation to prevent the formation of plagues building up in Mojacar, Pulpi, San Juan de los Terreros and Vera.
Their town halls entrust the company to carry out this work throughout the year.
However, due to the high rainfall in the past few months and the rise in temperatures of the summer months, it has been necessary to take extra measures this year.
With the use of a helicopter that hovers barely a couple of metres above the ground ,the work is carried out using a biological biocide mixed with water that attacks the various stages of the mosquito larva without causing damage to other insects or fauna.
Lokímica also offer some practical advice to avoid the proliferation of mosquitoes in other areas. Avoid leaving empty containers lying around where water can accumulate, maintain the cleanliness of balsas and untreated swimming pools, as well as fountains and ponds.
If it is possible, in ponds, the use of coloured fish such as Carp and the mosquito fish, Gambusia which are efficient predators of mosquito larva is also recommended.
