Spain’s Fernando Alonso fourth in German Grand Prix

Sebastian Vettel is currently leading the way after the German Grand Prix finished this weekend. Spain’s Fernando Alonso himself has admitted that he needs to start winning races if he is to have any chance of beating Vettel to the title.

The Spaniard is 34 points adrift of the Red Bull driver after Vettel won Sunday’s German GP with Alonso coming fourth. Alonso came out fighting however saying “there is still a long way to go and if you have the package to fight everything is possible.”

He also admitted that improvement can start at the next race in Hungary on July 28.

This weekend the fight seemed to have already started however, when Alonso climbed from eighth on the grid to finish fourth at the Nurburgring. He finished just four seconds behind Vettel; he put this down to a different strategy that Ferrari had used rather than speed.

Alonso is still not one hundred per cent positive.”We were not quick enough today. We didn’t have the pace and even with that we fight for the podium and were very close to the leading group.”

He is second behind Vettel in the overall standings and if he can close the gap in the next race, he stands a good chance of pressurising Vettel for the top spot. Ferrari team Principal Stefano Domenicali has said that winning the title is possible for Ferrari and Alonso as change is very quick just as Mercedes Lewis Hamilton driver has said that the title race was still “on” for Alonso.
