A TOTAL of 1,200 hectares of Valencian Community land were destroyed by fire this year.
The emergency service were called out to 221 fires tin the region’s three provinces.
Of these 84 per cent did not take hold and each affected an area of barely one hectare.
This has been a very dry summer, however, and extra operators have been assigned to the 112 emergency number over the long weekend that starts today (Thursday).
The Justice and Interior department also called on the public to advise the authorities whenever they witness a fire or fire hazard.
