Robbery gang broken-up

THE Guardia Civil has dismantled a gang accused of committing at least three robberies with violence.

Four people, who allegedly searched for their victims from inside a car before jumping out on them, have been arrested. After using threatening and aggresive behaviour the gang would steal their personal belongings, say Guardia Civil.

The investigation, which fell within the plan for tourism safety, started after a victim went to the police station in Garrucha.

The victim gave the police information that a person had got out of a car asking for a light for his cigarette, only to then threaten the victim and demand their mobile phone.

The victim managed to get away from the would be mugger.

Guardia Civil linked this attack to a second robbery of an identical nature where four individuals had robbed three people of their belongings, causing significant injuries to the victims.

Using the facts from both robberies, agents were able to identify the vehicle suspected of being used in the attack, and the owner of the vehicle.

Once located, the owner of the vehicle claimed that his car had been stolen previously, a fact which agents say they were able to disprove after questioning.

The man handed over a mobile phone stolen that same night and was identified by the victim of the attack.

The 25-year-old man from Sorbas was arrested along with two other men aged 31 and 23 from Los Gallardos and a 22-year-old man from Bedar. All four men are currently being held in prison accused of committing three robberies with violence and intimidation
