Golf club could be fined

MIJAS Town Hall has opened a report against the Santana Golf Club for gathering cuttings which almost caused a forest fire.

The cuttings and glass clippings were kept near the GamonalRiver and were apparently set fire to intentionally.

Residents in the area called the firemen and Local Police reporting that they could see a huge column of smoke near the golf club.

The 300 metres of cuttings were alight and the blaze was reaching ‘worrying’ dimensions. Firemen worked for hours to stop it from spreading.

In the early hours, firemen had to return to the area when the cuttings re-ignited

The Santana Golf Club could face several large fines.
