LOS ANGELES, Sept. 9 (UPI) — British rock ‘n’ roll icon Elton John is to perform a tribute to the late musician Liberace at the Emmy Awards show in Los Angeles, CBS announced Monday.

The prize presentation is to take place Sept. 22.

“Behind the Candelabra,” a TV movie about Liberace’s life, is up for 15 Emmys — awards honouring the year’s best in television.

John’s performance, which will accompany an appearance by Emmy-nominated “Candelabra” co-stars Michael Douglas and Matt Damon, will mark the singer’s first time on the TV awards show.

The appearance coincides with the Sept. 24 release of “The Diving Board,” his first studio album in seven years.
