THE Corvera airport contract has now been officially cancelled.
As reported in last week’s Euro Weekly News, Murcia regional government had been given the go ahead by airport operator Aena and the Ministry of Defence to overturn the prior management contract with Aeromur and a consortium led by Sacyr. Now, following a regional cabinet meeting, Councillor Antonio Sevilla, confirmed the decision had been made and made “in the interests of the general good.”
One reasons for rescinding the contract was the consortium wanting to change the terms of its contract and failing to get the airport up and running within the time specified. The contract will now be put out to tender once again in a bid to get the airport open as soon as possible.
It is unclear whether a damages claim against the concessionaire will be made.
