Party time as HiFX celebrates Marbella anniversary

HiFX, the leading international foreign exchange and money transfer services company, celebrated its first year anniversary at its offices at CentroPlaza in Nueva Andalucia on Thursday.

The event saw more than 300 guests attend, both Spanish and international partners and clients. Real estate agents, lawyers, financial advisors, relocation companies as well as the press and media were all well represented joining leading figures from the British Chamber of Commerce in Spain.

Founding partner and Vice Chairman Shaun Taylor, said: “The success of the office shows our continuing commitment to both the expat community and local partners, whom we are very proud to serve.”

Guests were treated to cocktails, created in the company’s brand colours by Yanx restaurant especially for the occasion alongside a selection of wines, beers and soft drinks to ensure conversation flowed all evening.

Showman Quikke Navarro and his four-piece band whose electric violin, laser bow and unlimited energy created the perfect party atmosphere and had business people from all backgrounds up on their feet.

To tempt the taste buds there was a generous selection of entrées including sushi and other tasty appetisers available. And renowned “Cortador de Jamón” or “Iberian Ham Cutter” Pedro M. Polvillo both fed and entertained guests by showcasing his truly artistic techniques and cutting two whole legs of ham for the crowd by hand.

Head of European Sales for HiFX, Keith Spitalnick, took a moment away from enjoying the party to tell EWN a little bit about how and why the Summer Party came about.

“This is our first year anniversary party. We moved into this office at the CentroPlaza last year and held an opening party to celebrate. We had so many people come back to us in the weeks afterwards saying what a good time they’d had and what a beautiful setting it was, that we thought ‘let’s make it an annual event!’

“We held it at this time as it’s the second week in September, everyone’s back from August break, they’ve caught up with their emails so, hopefully, everyone’s got a few deals they’re working on, it’s a nice positive time and a good chance to see each other socially.”

The HiFX team in Spain were accompanied at the party by founding member Vice Chancellor Shaun Taylor and investor Tony Arnold who was instrumental in raising the capital for HiFX. Shaun commented on how nice it is to have come so far together and be able to celebrate this moment. He said: “Tony was there right at the start and HiFX has come so far since; from humble beginnings to being able to share this beautiful moment with everyone here.”

Shaun who was just 24 when he and partner Laurence Butcher set up the business states that it was HiFX’s confidence in the changing market in Spain that brought them back to Marbella. Shaun said: “Marbella is back on the map, confidence is growing and people in the UK and from overseas are buying and investing once again. Rates are still low in Spain, meaning that now is the perfect time to invest.”

Shaun says he foresees the next 10 years to be ones of positive growth in Spain and that HiFX, which has four branches in southern Europe (Marbella, Gibraltar, Alicante and Vilamoura in Portugal) plans to expand further throughout Spain and the Canary and Balearic Islands.

Over a decade ago, HiFX’s founding partners realised that by minimising unnecessary banking overheads and investing in technology, they could offer both companies and private individuals significantly better exchange rates and provide an exceptional foreign exchange service with no hidden fees.

Keith Spitalnick said: “We invite clients to come in and meet the team over a coffee, use our secure internet suite to log in to the online service themselves or, for clients who prefer the more traditional approach, we of course also offer them the option of making their international payments over the phone with a dedicated dealer for that personal service.

“We really do cater to the needs of all our clients – those who are comfortable online, those that need some guidance online and those who prefer to speak to someone to transfer their funds.”

HiFX originally set up in Spain between 2002 and 2003 and now 10 years on continue to work closely with the expatriate communities and international clients to provide the best service in international payments.

Guests at the HiFX Annual Summer Party told EWN they had thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to let their hair down, the evening was deemed a great success by all who attended as they ate, drank chatted and danced among friends and colleagues alike.
