ELCHE’S Miguel Hernandez University (UMH) is assessing emissions from Campello’s landfill site for an Alicante judge.
The court scrutiny stems from a private lawsuit by a resident dissatisfied with the regional government’s refusal to close Les Canyades.
The UMH warned last year that “dangerous substances” were present and asked to investigate inside the plant but did not recommend its closure.
Residents who claim that Les Canyades rubbish treatment plant is a health risk welcomed the move.
Local group, Plataforma de Afectados, nevertheless warned that FCC, which runs the plant, should not know when UMH researchers planned to measure emissions and collect samples.
