Striker of Malaga CF: Francisco Portillo.

Málaga CF’s Francisco Portillo held a press conference at the Ciudad de Málaga stadium, following this morning’s training session. The El Palo-born player is confident the team will continue moving forward: “It’s important to believe in the team. We’re a very close-knit group and have every faith in our coach. We’re all in this together.”

Portillo discusses yesterday’s meal with the rest of the team and the Club’s directors: “We really needed to get together.  It’s a difficult time at the moment and we wanted to show that we’re a good group and all get on well together.”

The ‘Malaguista’ doesn’t think the team has lost its identity: “At times we may have lacked the right attitude in certain games, but we’re confident in our ability and are all working as hard as possible to achieve our goals.”  Portillo also refers to the importance of the academy: “Málaga have always produced quality players from the lower ranks and it’s crucial that the younger players move up to the first team.”

Regarding the next League rival, Portillo comments. “Athletic are one of the most important clubs in Spain, but we’re playing at our home ground and will do everything we can in order to keep the three points here.”
