Lorry fire causes 2-km traffic jam in Nerja

A LORRY caused a two-kilometre traffic jam after it caught fire on the A7 motorway in Nerja. The 112 Emergency Services received calls warning about a fire in a vehicle close to the Cerro Gordo tunnel on the A7 motorway.

Firefighters and Guardia Civil traffic officers called to the area confirmed a large goods vehicle transporting fruit caught fire for unknown reasons.

They decided to divert the traffic along the old N340 road as the smoke caused by the fire was reported to have blocked the tunnel.

Traffic tailed back two kilometres towards Malaga as firefighters extinguished the blaze. The lorry driver and a passenger were unharmed, according to the Provincial Traffic Department.
