Deputy Mayor of Orihuela resigns

RESIGNATION: Surrounded by colleagues, Antonia Moreno stands down

DEPUTY MAYOR of Orihuela, Antonia Moreno, has resigned from the government team.

The PSOE Councillor for Infrastructure, Culture and Communication is stepping down at the end of the month from her duties within the town hall and from the party saying her decision was down to “strictly personal reasons.”

Her announcement came just days after she marked her eighth anniversary of being in politics: “I think after eight years committed to Orihuela I have reached the time to make way for other partners and of new leaders and voices to lead projects for Orihuela socialism.” She continued: “My loyalty and trust in the PSOE, whether in Orihuela, in the region or in the Valencian community in Spain is growing.”

During her announcement in Orihuela, she added: “I understand that the voluntary resignation of an active politician will cause surprise and bewilderment and I understand that this may be cause for speculation, however, I must reiterate that the reasons for my motion are purely personal.”
