MORE than 2,000 Guardia Civil have taken part in a campaign to prevent the sales of illegal food and drink products over Christmas.
They have seized more than 500 tonnes of foodstuffs and 400,000 litres of drinks, including sparkling wine, liquors, seafood, fish and meat which did not comply with health and safety measures, were not properly marked and were adulterated and on occasions past their ‘eat by’ dates. Irregularities also included inadequate storage, distribution and transport.
Almost 2,340 stores, hotels, warehouses and other premises were inspected and 25 people have been arrested.
