A company in Taiwan has designed new roadside guard rails, made of polycarbonate and polypropylene, which has some benefits over the traditional steel railings.
Roadside railings are designed to prevent vehicles from leaving the road and to absorb the impact in the case of accidents. There have been concerns about the steel railings being dangerous in the event of motorbike accidents.
According to the manufacturers, the new plastic railings are stronger and safer ; they are more resistant and absorb impact better than steel road rails. They are also more flexible and weigh less, making them easier to install.
During the manufacturing process, they are treated with ultraviolet rays and heat; they can be produced in various colours to improve visibility in any road conditions.
