MALAGA City Hall’s environmental department is studying the use of awnings which would reduce noise levels from terraces of bars and restaurants.
Noise from the terraces is one of the main sources of acoustic contamination in the city, and cause for complaints amongst local residents.
However, noise level measurements are being carried out to determine what materials could be used to reduce the impact of noise, according to the local councillor for the Environment, Raul Jimenez. A company from Alicante has said that it will do the tests for free. Depending on the results, the use of such awnings could be enforced by law in the city.
