UK golden girl in Winter Olympics

Lizzy Yarnold: Gold medal winner

Last Friday, Lizzy Yarnold (25) won GB’s first gold medal of the 2014 Winter Olympics, and only their tenth ever on snow/ice. After producing a brilliant final run, she finished 0.97 seconds ahead of USA’s Noelle Pikus-Pace in the women’s skeleton bob.

Lizzy follows in the footsteps of her current landlady Amy Williams, who won this event in Vancouver 2010.

Great viewing.

GB’s other eight ‘winter’ golds:

1936: Men/ice hockey

1952: Jeannette Altwegg/figure skating

1964: Tony Nash & Robin Dixon/two-man bobsleigh

1976: John Curry/figure skating
