Spanish Senator hides 1.5 million in Swiss account

The Swiss Justice has revealed that the Spanish senator and former deputy of the Popular Party in Madrid, Francisco Granados, had a bank account in Switzerland containing at least €1.5 million between 1996 and 2000.

He has decided to step down from his duties following the revelations and will not be attending the Parliamentary meeting this afternoon.

The PP spokesman Iñigo Hernriquez de Luna commented: “it is a coherent and responsible decision, which is valued at a time when politicians hide behind their parliamentary immunity.”

The Spanish authorities are now investigating the origins of the funds; leads have yet to be found.

Senator Granados insists that he was not asked to resign. He also added that the money “has no connection to his political life.”
