Swimmers are frustrated missing out on energetic workout tunes and holiday makers are sick of damaging their mp3’s with splashes of water. Those problems have found a solution thanks to Sony.
Take your music underwater! Sony are debuting a waterproof Walkman, the NZW-W270 – good luck remembering the name – which will enable people to listen to their favorite tunes in the shower, pool and sea. It contains a 4GB music player incorporated in the earphones.
Functional and well built
The two ear units are connected by a single cable which enables you to select a track with a button on your right and control the volume on your left.
“When my head was fully submerged with the Walkman, I found the volume to be adequate, but only when I had it on maximum. The fact that it can’t play that loud is probably a safety feature, since when I surfaced, the music sounded louder.” Says Pete Pachal, a technology journalist for Mashable.
The walkman works with Mac and PC devices. The battery is built to last up to eight hours. As well as enabling swimmers to listen to workout music, the earphones will also be handy for other athletes who have had music player fail on them because of sweat.
The product will be available in three colours: black, blue and pink in March for just over €100.
