Alicante Wants to Become the Florida of the Med

ALICANTE is aiming to become a health destination attracting senior residents with a disposable income, making the most of the healthy climate and health services on offer.

The Competitiveness Plan, which has been prepared by the City of Alicante, includes several projects to position the area as the Florida of the Mediterranean, attracting European retirees by promoting medical tourism to attract visitors from different countries and promotion agreements between private clinics, hotels and travel agencies, as well as promotional packages including stay and treatment.

The Competitiveness Plan will aim to encourage both temporary visitors as well as long term visitors, both national and foreign.

It is intended to achieve “a more dynamic economy by increasing consumption in the city, an increase of wealth and the municipal GDP, debt reduction and to reduce the surplus supply of properties.”
