Chinese tour operators have been in Alicante participating in a conference promoting the Costa Blanca.
Their visit is part of a work trip to include Alcoy, Benidorm, Valencia, Murcia and Madrid.
The tour operators are from some of the most densely populated and most economically powerful provinces of China and aim to promote the Costa Blanca as a destination for shopping.
Experts predict that by 2020 China will become the world’s largest source of tourists eager to engage in culture, cuisine and shopping.
Currently, it is unlikely that the scheduling of direct flights between Alicante and China will happen immediately.
However, the AVE offers many possibilities, with Chinese tourists travelling to the south from cities like Madrid by train.
Spain is the destination of choice for an average 250,000 Chinese tourists a year.
