As a baby she was abandoned in the bathroom of a Burger King, but at 27-years-of-age Katheryn Deprill has managed to track down her biological mother.

She met the woman who gave her up for the first time on Monday in a lawyer’s office after a successful Facebook appeal.

Ms Deprill began her search on March 2 by posting a photo of herself with a long appeal on the social media site.

She was pictured holding a sign reading: “Looking for my birth mother … She abandoned me in the Burger King bathroom, only hours old, Allentown PA. Please help me find her by sharing my post.”

As her appeal gained momentum the married mother of three quickly became known as the Burger King Baby, with thousands of users reposting the picture and asking others to help in the search.

The post was shared tens of thousands of times.

Ms Deprill was just a few hours old when she was abandoned, wrapped in a red jumper, in the bathroom of a Burger King fast-food restaurant in 1986.

She was raised by adoptive parents.

Ms Deprill said she wanted to ask her birth mother a few things:

“Number one is, I would really like to say, ‘Thank you for not throwing me away, thank you for giving me the gift of life, and look what I’ve become.”

She added that she wanted to know “what made her do it? Why did she feel that she shouldn’t leave me at a hospital? Was she going through a horrible time?”

Ms Deprill said of the meeting that she felt “pure joy” and it was like “looking in a mirror”.

She says she and her birth mum plan to spend some more time together to get to know each other better.
