Max Clifford jailed for 8 years

Shamed PR guru Max Clifford has been jailed for eight years.

On Monday he was found guilty of eight counts of indecent assault, with sentencing deferred until today.

At today’s sentencing he remained unrepentant beforehand, saying nothing to the press as he stood for five minutes of photo calls, except to state he ‘stood by’ everything he had said before.

He had called his accusers fantasists and opportunists.

The 71-year-old is said to have smiled at the gallery when Judge Anthony Leonard said he would have to serve at least half of that sentence.

His offences date back over a number of years, starting in the 1970s.

London’s Southwark Crown Court heard that he had used his position as a man of influence  to pressure women, some underage teenagers, into sexual relations.

As the offences date back so long he was sentenced according to rules in force at the time.

If he had committed the same crimes in the last two decades, he could have faced life in jail.

Clifford was cleared of two other counts last week.

Once again the justice system shows how weak it is. Eight years and only serve half for a man who has shown no remorse or repentance for what he has done over a period of over forty years. They should lock him up and throw away the key. The justice system in Britain has become a laughing stock. Its no wonder criminals laugh when they get a prison sentence.
