New Marina: Contractor approved to redevelop Fuengirola's port
The Junta de Andalucia has promised to invest €270,000 in modernising the port in Fuengirola.
This initiative was put forward by the Public Ports Agency and will allow the fishermen better access, by road, between the area in which they keep their nets and other equipment and their boats.
Companies interested in getting the contract for the works will be able to make their offers until May 26 at which time the Junta will consider the proposals and adjudicate the job.
The works should last around three months and affect approximately 110 metres of the current dock.
The project will consist of a new structure being built along the length of the dock which will allow vehicles to get nearer to the boats, thus making life easier for the fishing industry in the port.
The port of Fuengirola is home to around 51 fishing boats and in 2013 the Fuengirola fish market moved 1,2 million kilos of fresh produce with an approximate value of €3,5 million.
