Taxi concern: about the new laws.
Marbella council has now approved the long awaited new by-laws governing the issue of taxi licenses but they have not been well received by all.
The previous criteria for the concession of licenses was based on 2.5 taxis for every 1,000 residents and now it has changed to 1.9 taxis for every 1,000 residents meaning that the conceding of new licenses would be frozen for the next few years.
Jose Bernal, local PSOE leader, commented that it would take decades for new licenses to be given out, he went on to state that the taxi drivers “should be protected and respected as they give a great and essential service to all the residents and tourists of the town”.
The taxi associations of Marbella and San Pedro have both spoken against the new criteria and are requesting a revision of the law.
Marbella council has said that some modifications may be made eventually.
