Winegrowers in Valencia are angry with the new designation of origin (DO).
Winegrowers in Valencia are incensed after a new designation of origin (DO) was passed, allowing neighbouring areas to claim their wine as being Valencian.
Winemakers have been angered by the decision and have thrown their displeasure to the High Court in Valencia.
The wine industry is very proud of its grapes and feels that its reputation could be affected.
On the one hand, some believe that there is a logical reason for the classification, to improve prices and profitability.
Producers Utiel-Requena warned that Valencia had lost vineyards and production in recent decades, so large exporters have to source where they can.
Conversely, some feel that this waters down the brand of Valencian wines and that it is misleading customers.
