BRITISH actor and comedian Rik Mayall died this morning (Monday) aged 56.
His management company announced that the star of a string of TV hits that started with his big break on BBC2’s The Young Ones, passed away suddenly.
He was perhaps best known for his partnership with Ade Edmondson with whom he starred in Bottom and as comedy duo The Dangerous Brothers.
He was the star, playing MP Alan B’Stard, of The New Statesman and made several appearances as Lord Flasheart in Blackadder, as well as appearing on the big screen in Drop Dead Fred and Guest House Paradiso.
In 1998 he nearly died after a quad-bike accident left him with a fractured skull and two brain haemorrhages, being left on life support for five days. The accident left him with epilepsy as a lasting legacy.
