F1 plate on car similar to this one
THERE are vanity number plates, then there are vanity number plates.
If you have the cash to spare – £10 million (€12.5 million) to be exact – then you could have the racing fan’s dream plate of F1.
That is the price tag put on the number plate in the UK six years after Yorkshire based owner Afzal Kahn bought it for a trifling £440,000 (€550,000). At the moment the plate is registered on a Bugatti Veyron hypercar. The plate is valued at 10 times the price of the car.
Apparently Kahn has already turned down an offer of £8.5 million for the plate from a potential buyer in the Middle East
Kahn bought the plate from Essex County Council which had it registered to a Volvo S80 used by its chairman.
The council sold it off to raise funds to train young drivers. At the time it was a record price for a private sale.
