Leonardo DiCaprio donates €6 million to ocean conservation projects

Great Gatsby actor and environmental conservationist Leonado DiCaprio has pledged €6 million to marine conservation efforts to help protect the world’s ocean.

That is on top of the €2.1m the Hollywood heartthrob contributed last year.

The generous donation was revealed during the committed environmentalist’s speech, at the “Our Ocean” conference held by the U.S State Department in Washington D.C.

“Since my very first dive on the Great Barrier Reef in Australia 20-years-ago to the dive I got to do in the very same location just two years ago, I’ve witnessed environmental devastation firsthand.” Leo shared at the conference, adding: “I stand here as the concern citizen of this planet who believes that this is the most important issue of our time.”

In November 2010, the 39 year old donated €0.7m to the Wildlife Conservation Society at Russia’s tiger summit.

Di Caprio’s persistence in reaching the event after encountering two plane delays caused Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin to describe him as a “muzhik” or “real man”.
