Eurovision champion Conchita Wurst helped open the celebrations at the official opening of the annual Gay Pride festival in Madrid.
Ruth Lorenzo, Spain’s Eurovision entry, also attended as the crowd went crazy for Wurst. The noise broke a City Hall limit of 45 decibels for the venue.
MADO 2014 organizers believe that Madrid Gay Pride will bring in over than €110 million in extra fund to the capital.
Two million people are expected to attend Saturday’s main party in the city centre.
There has been anger aimed at Madrid Mayor, Ana Botella, of the conservative Popular Party after her decision to hold almost no other events in Chueca square, the Spanish capital’s main gay neighbourhood.
