United win pre-season trophy

Manchester United, now under Louis Van Gaal, triumphed in the International Champions Cup after not losing a single game in the tournament beating Liverpool 3-1 in the final with Rooney playing a key role.

Rooney, Lingard and Mata scored for the ‘Red Devils’ while Steven Gerrard’s penalty was the only one for Liverpool. The first half proved even with just the penalty separating the teams, Phil Jones felled Sterling in the box and Stevie thumped home from 12 yards. Rooney popped his goal in at 55 minutes and Mata took only 2 more at 57 minutes played. They controlled the game and added a late third.

Manchester United have been in imperious form and even saw off the European Champions Real Madrid 3-1 in front of 109,000 spectators.

The new Premier League season will begin on August 16 and this preparation will surely aid both teams to prepare to challenge for the league.

Van Gaal has really changed the atmosphere around Old Trafford and now fans of the red side of Manchester will have some belief, belief that was non-existent under the dull reign of David Moyes.
