THE 33rd edition of the International Dance Festival in Torrox was a huge success. Held between Thursday July 31 and Sunday August 3, the festival featured some of the best dance ensembles from Spain.
The festival has become one of the most important cultural events on the Costa del Sol and this year’s programme included traditional dances from places as culturally diverse as Mexico, Castilla-La Mancha and Andalucia, said Culture Councillor Juanma Cortes.
Dance Academy Lydia and Lucia began the proceedings with a breathtaking performance entitled ‘Sueños’ (Dreams), which was followed on Friday with a traditional flamenco show.
First held in 1981, the Torrox International Dance Festival was the first event of its kind in the Axarquia to promote Andalucian folklore.
One of the main objectives of the festival is to bring culture to the people and to promote both Torrox and the province of Malaga throughout the country, and to prevent the cultural legacy of the region from sinking into oblivion.
