A teenager who witnessed the murder of her whole family has been sent a letter by J K Rowling after Cassidy Stay quoted from the famous Harry Potter series.

The young American girl was present while a shooter killed her parents and four siblings whilst only just surviving by pretending to be dead. She then telephoned the police alerting them to the fact that Ronald Lee Haskell planned to kill more members of the family.

Haskell is the brother-in-law of the victims’ mother and has been charged officially. The 33- year-old could be handed the death penalty.

Cassidy, during the memorial service, said “Happiness can be found even in the darkest times if one only remembers to turn on the light.I know that my mom, dad, Bryan, Emily, Becca, and Zach are in a much better place and that I’ll be able to see them again one day. Stay strong.”

The first line is taken from a speech given by Albus Dumbledore in the third Harry Potter book named ‘The Prisoner of Azkaban.’ It prompted a Facebook campaign leading to Rowling giving Cassidy a handwritten note in purple ink, a letter of acceptance to Hogwarts with a wand, a list of school supplies and a signed book.
