Following in the footsteps of Mr Asbo, a new swan has hit the headlines for assaulting visitors to the River Cam. Asboy pecks at rowers and has been to seen to fly straight into families. He clearly loves the river and defends against anyone seen on it.
“He’s the most vicious swan I have ever seen,” said John Gale. This is a similar story to that of Mr Asbo who was removed after cutting and bruising people on the river. He then added “I even saw him trying to bite through the chains which tether the punts to the wall of the river.”
People fear someone will get seriously injured eventually and might decide to remove him if Asboy continues. Mr Asbo was removed in 2012 after attacking from the air, his wings cut down a bit to make a return impossible.
Swans are protected and therefore special permission is needed to remove or harm them. Unsurprisingly Asboy has become a tourist attraction in the area of Cambridge with people coming to snap some photos.
