Tiger Woods has ruled himself out of the Ryder Cup for this year citing his recent back problems and has thanked Tom Watson for his consideration anyway.
Tiger has played in seven Ryder Cups and despite only winning one, the golf superstar was expected to be part of the team even considering his below par form.
The golfer is currently ranked at number 70 on the list which is 61 places lower than automatic qualification. He has had a terrible season, by his standards, as he missed the cut at the US PGA in Valhalla and placed 69th in The Open.
Doctors have informed Woods that he should not play as he could risk further injuring himself and Tiger has heeded their warning. This is the latest withdrawal from the US team following Dustin Johnson’s break away from the sport.
