EURO WEEKLY NEWS have learned that Microsoft intends to unveil the initial release of its new operating system, codenamed ‘Threshold,’ at a press conference currently scheduled for September 30.

The ‘Threshold’ version of Windows, likely to be called Windows 9, is still in development so there is a chance that this date may change, but Microsoft are planning to launch a preview version to developers on or soon after September 30.

The early preview will give developers a chance to check out a new mini Start Menu along with other changes to the user interface such as removing the Charms bar from desktop versions; this is the vertical menu that sweeps in from the right hand side of your screen offering quick links to Search, Share, Start, Devices, and Settings.

It is not expected that Microsoft will officially name the new operating system at the press event, but will more than likely use the opportunity to showcase new key features and technology intended to get enthusiasts and developers alike excited.
