THE fire department in Granada are working to extinguish a forest fire in Cenes de la Vega which has forced the closure of the A-395 motorway to facilitate the emergency services in their work.
Two swimming pools in the water park Aquaola have been closed so that the emergency services can extract water with which to help extinguish the flames.
Sources close to the operation have stated that the fire started at around 4pm, in a wooded area known as Lomas de Genil. The blaze has since spread through Camino de los Neveros and is now nearing Monachil.
Emergency services have reported that the flames and smoke, visible from as far away as Granada, have resulted in over 150 calls to the emergency 112 number.
Although the fire has disrupted traffic on the A-395, no one has of yet been advised to evacuate their home.
