GERMAN biologist Dr Arno Kahne has produced a new variety of cherry tomato named ‘La Nucia.’
The plants can each produce 200 tomatoes and seeds have been sent to chemicals multinational BASF in Ludwichshafen (Germany) for testing.
La Nucia’s mayor, Bernabe Cano and Foreign Residents’ councillor Bart Gommans accompanied Monika Welchering, director of the Montebello Residence, to visit Dr Kahn’s allotment.
Here they inspected the plants that are the result of experiments he has carried out since moving to the residence in 2013.
Vegetable-growing is now the hobby of 80-year-old Dr Kahne who was in charge of several West German development schemes during the Eighties, including a project in Peru.
