FUENGIROLA Council is to be the first to incorporate a beach area dedicated to those who want to ‘paddle surf’.
Carvajal is the first beach in Spain to have a zone especially designated for paddle boarders to get in and out of the water.
This popular new sport consists of standing on a modified, and slightly heavier, surf board and using a paddle to direct it through the water; unlike surfing, the sport does not require waves.
The new activity will have an information point on the beach where it will also be possible to rent the boards and have lessons.
Ana Mula, Councillor for Beaches, commented that although the paddle board beach had only been up and running for a few days, there was already considerable interest both from locals and tourists alike.
Boards will be available to rent at €15 per hour.
