ANDY MURRAY aced his way through three straight sets against Tsonga to go through to the quarter finals in the US open yesterday. Playing in the humid New York heat, Murray served up 11 aces against the 9th seed Tsongs to win 7-5, 7-5, 6-4.

Murray  seeded 8th in the tournament, claimed his first top 10 win this year in just over two and a half hours at Flushing Meadows.

“Today was a good match for the most part,” said Murray.

“I feel like I’m playing well. I’m going to have to play extremely well to win the event or even just to get through the next match.

“You never know what can happen in a couple of days. A week ago I didn’t feel great at all.”

Murray will play the top seed Novak Djokovic on Wednesday.
