Ashya in Prague hospital

UPDATE: ASHYA KING has checked into Motol Childrens Hospital in Prague after touching down in the Czech Republic at 1pm after flying in from Malaga.

Ashya is in the intensive care ward of the hospital and his parents remain by his side, according to Doctor Jan Stary, chief of paedratric haemotology in the hospital.

Stary said that the child remains seriously ill, and was accompanied by a doctor throughout the journey from Malaga to Prague.

Ashya underwent an operation to remove the tumour in England six weeks ago, and now Czech doctors want to determine whether any tumour remains or not.

Stary said: “We are not yet considering any intense chemotherapy of the kind where a blood transfusion will be necessary.”

Once the current state of any remaining tumour is established, the doctors shall proceed with the best course of action, according to Stary.

On Tuesday Ashya is expected to be taken to the Proton Therapy Centre (PTC), where he may well undergo the special radiotherapy treatment next week.

UPDATE: Ashya King left Malaga’s Childrens Hospital this morning at 8.20am after a stay of eight days.

The Junta de Andalucía (regional government) gave the go-ahead yesterday for the five-year-old to be moved to Prague to receive Proton Beam Therapy.

Ashya left the hospital this morning in a specialised ambulance which took him to the airport. He was accompanied by police in an operation designed to maximise his comfort and privacy.

Brett King, the boy’s father, followed the ambulance in a taxi with the family’s lawyer, Juan Isidro Fernandez. The ambulance entered the airport through a restricted area whilst Mr. King had to enter through the main entrance.

Hospital authorities said yesterday that the boy would be able to travel once all the correct documentation was in place, including a medically-equipped aeroplane.

Once on board the plane, Ashya King will travel on to Prague to receive the treatment denied to him on the NHS.

Five-year-old Ashya King, who is currently undergoing treatment for a brain tumour, could be set to travel to the Czech Republic for Proton Beam Therapy any day now.

Ashya has spent eight days in hospital in Malaga since being found by the Spanish police in Velez Malaga, and during that time his parents have been held in custody in Madrid, before finally being reunited with Ashya and their other children after the British Crown Prosecution Service dropped their European arrest warrant.

Now the Kings are looking to travel to Prague as soon as possible, where Ashya will be able to receive the special treatment denied to him by the NHS.

The family have been granted permission by the British courts to move Ashya to the Czech Republic, but still have to find a privately-funded, medically-equipped plane to get him there.

Health authorities in Andalucia have stipulated that the plane will have to meet certain requirements, and be fitted out with the correct medical equipment, before they allow the boy to be moved from the children’s hospital in Malaga where he is currently residing.

The request was made during a two and a half hour meeting between Health delegate Daniel Perez; chief medical directors Manuel Paz and Jose Antonio Medina; and Ashya’s father and eldest brother, Brett and Danny King.

Perez has said that all the paperwork except that relating to the aeroplane is in order and that once the Kings have complied with their requests, the go ahead to move Ashya will be given.

The family’s lawyer, Juan Isidro Fernandez, has said that the transport will be ready by Monday at the latest.
