Ana Botín to take over Banco Santander

ANA BOTÍN, the eldest daughter of Emelio Botín, has been named as the new president of Banco Santander.

The administration board unanimously elected Ana to take over the roll as president of the bank after the death of her father last week. Ana was the preferred child to take over the banking empire, she has been Managing Director of Santander UK since 2010. A statement read by the committee, “Ana is the ideal person to take over as president due to her professionalism and experience. Her role in the group both nationally and internationally has been pivotal and it is a unanimous decision to vote her in as the new president of the group.”

Emilio Botín,  president of Banco Santander died last week, aged 79 from a heart attack. His funeral takes place today in an intimate family ceremony in Puente San Miguel (Cantabria), where he will be buried in the family vault.
