Nadal pulls out of Asia competition

Following on shortly from his withdrawal from the US Open last month, it has been announced today that Rafael Nadal will not be participating in the inaugural International Premier Tennis League, citing health reasons. The 28-year-old Spaniard and currently ranked World number 2 will not take part in the new tournament to be held in the Philippines, UAE, Singapore and India in November and December.

Nadal – who has suffered from numerous injuries throughout his glittering career – has not played a competitive game since suffering a wrist injury at Wimbledon at the start of the summer. He was unable to defend his title at the US Open this year and also missed the Davis Cup where he normally competes for Spain. A host of tennis’ top stars have signed up for the new competition, including Andy Murray, Novak Djokovic, Serena Williams, Caroline Wozniacki and Maria Sharapova.
