Casa Italia – Restaurant Review

Facebook

CASA ITALIA, a hidden treat for those who love to indulge in fine Italian Cuisine.

Situated in the heart of Cabopino Port, you will find Casa Italia next door to the infamous Julies Bar. What was once the old dining area of Julies is now home to the newest eatery on the Port.

With super views overlooking the port, you can dine on the terrace with prime views where you are able to sit back and watch the world, people and yachts go by or take a seat inside and enjoy the comfortable surrounds of the new and recently refurbished venue.

With a comfortable inside seating area to cater for 24 people as well as six seats at the modern bar, Casa Italia has a terrace supporting a further 36 covers, the terrace is designed to cater for all weather conditions, so guaranteed to be a popular location in the summer as well as the winter months.

There is a relaxed and homely feel to this intimate restaurant, with a subtle jazz background music playing in the air, the place has been redecorated in modern colours and furniture and hosts a collection of strategically placed foliage throughout bringing the dark green in to lift and complement the light colours of the décor.

French owner, ‘Florian’ was there to greet us straight away, asking our preference of seating and pre dinner drinks, nothing too difficult, in fact everything relaxed yet attentive in detail. Noticing on arrival a table of six, we could but overhear the conversation between clients and staff, listening and taking note to the detail being offered of the local and further afield tourist attractions, this isn’t a typical fast service money taking location, there is time spent talking with customers, explanation of local amenities, attractions, as well as what could be offered for food by Florian which wasn’t necessarily on the menu, really giving a fantastic opinion that you were part of the restaurant not just eating in there.

Once seated outside, a complimentary home-made platter of breads, a tartar sauce, garlic sauce and amazing tasting olives arrived; enjoyed with a glass of Pinot Grigio (€3.20) for one and Sangria (€6.00) for the other, starters and main course were ordered without delay.

The oven baked provolone cheese with tomatoes and oregano (€5.00) was a must when seeing it on the menu; served with the second starter of home-made marinated vegetable and rocket leaves under buffalo mozzarella (€7.00). The provolone was the best, absolutely mouth-watering taste bud overload and applaudable, so much so I almost had to order another. It was fantastico!

Main course consisting of grilled pork chops served in a creamy mushroom sauce and home-made potato puree (€14.00) – the pork was just perfect; tender, plenty and without a trace of fat, the sauce was creamy and tremendously tasty to the point of finding it difficult to say no to more. With one main covered the second was yet to come. Home-made pan fried veal escalopes served with spaghetti and Napolitano sauce (€17.00), this is an incredible serving, so be sure not to over indulge with too much from the starter menu. The spaghetti was cooked to perfection, the right texture, taste and amount. The veal took over half of the plate in size and was served at an ideal temperature. The veal was cooked to order and what couldn’t be finished was offered to take home.

Florian known for his fresh handmade pizzas attracts regular clients who travel to Casa Italia specifically for his pizzas, including fellow chefs and restaurant owners who all rate him at the top of the list for the varied pizzas available.

The venue is available for functions, and with advance notice special menus may be available. Opening on New Year’s Eve, Casa Italia is set for a special menu to see out the old and welcome in the New Year.
