Euro Weekly News receives AEEPP award

The Euro Weekly News Media Group was nominated in the AEEPP (Asociaciòn Española de Publicaciones Periòdicas) 9th annual awards ceremony held on September 30 in Madrid.

Members of the Euro Weekly News (EWN) team travelled to Madrid where they were joined by other media publications from across Spain.

President of the Community of Madrid, Ignacio Gonzalez, presented the award to the EWN team. It was made for the dedicated deliverance of more than 15 years of its free weekly publication to the English expatriate and English-speaking community in Spain and the wider digital audience.

The award was accepted on behalf of the entire EWNgroup by Operations Manager Nicki Burgess.

Forty awards were presented to media publications, EWN being the only English-language publication to receive an award. Speaking to President Gonzalez, Nicki Burgess said: “We are honoured to receive the award and feel privileged to be here with our Spanish colleagues from other media groups.”

President Gonzalez asked who the EWN targeted and Nicki explained that it was the largest English- language publication keeping expatriates in Spain informed of news across its six editions. President Gonzalez was impressed with the coverage and asked when EWN would be available in Madrid, jokingly asking if it would be when Madrid had a beach!

President Gonzalez showed great interest in EWN’s attendance, passing comment that he could tell the team were from Malaga as they were all supporting Southern Spain suntans.

The conversation continued in a jovial manner, with the success story being relayed to the president at his request as to how EWN had become such a large and successful news group.

With plans in the midst of Madrid allegedly constructing a man-made beach, perhaps by invitation of interest it may be time to consider EWN Madrid.

EWN owners Michel and Steven Euesden were unable to attend the ceremony as they were promoting the business in Europe at another function. But having seen the photographs of the event, Michel said: “This award is for no one person, it is for all at Euro Weekly News. We do not work as individuals, we work as a team. We pull together to ensure that each week we deliver to the English-speaking community and expatriates in Spain a newspaper giving local, national and international news in English. We also deliver 24/7 breaking news digitally to our readers and clients. Without the commitment and dedication of the whole team we would be hard-pressed to meet our own expectations. Steven and I are proud of where Euro Weekly News fits into the community, and we are equally proud of the team. We are thankful to the AEEPP for their recognition and award. A big thank you to everyone and importantly a big thank you to our readers for their continued loyalty, and to our clients for their continued advertising. We lead in being Spain’s largest free local newspaper in English.”
