Is your phone making you fat?

CHARGING your smart phone or tablet in your bedroom at night could make you fat.

Researchers at the University of Granada in southern Spain, say that the light emitted by such devices affects the body’s metabolism. They say our bodies need to be in pitch-black to produce the right levels of melatonin which is involved in regulating the conversion of food and drink into energy. Light disrupts this process and prevents food being burned off efficiently.

Using a computer or smart phone at night can also lead to an increase in weight as a study between the blue light emitted by electronic devices found that it leads to an increase in hunger. In a separate study by researchers in the US, it was found that exposure to the light increases hunger levels for several hours and even increases hunger levels after eating a meal.
