Horses take centre stage

EQUESTRIAN COMPETITION: taking place in Velez Malaga on Saturday

THE first Velez Malaga Ecuestre (equestrian)competition has been announced by the town hall and will take place this Saturday, October 25 in the Juan Carlos 1 fairground.

Miguel Angel Molina – Councillor for Agriculture and Fishing – and Pedro Leon – President of Velez Malaga’s equestrian club Peña Caballista Veleña – announced that the event will begin at 11am with an exhibition of local oxen followed by a horse and carriage exhibition at 11.30am.

Molina explained that during the afternoon there will be an equestrian display called Andalucia sueña (Andalucia dreams) from 4.30pm and said: “the Velez council continues to support this type of equestrian event. For this first edition of the competition – which we hope will become a yearly event – the 1,000 square metre awning in the fairground will be used and 500 seats will be provided for spectators.”

The president of the equestrian club thanked the council for the initiative and explained that prizes will be awarded to winners of the different categories of the horse and carriage competition, which will be attended by local enthusiasts and also many from other areas of the province.

Finally he spoke of the excellent quality of the equestrian show Andalucia sueña which will end the event and mentioned that stands with horse-related articles will be installed in the grounds.
