Casting out the devil

A GIRL in Burgos who suffered from anorexia and anxiety attacks was exorcised 13 times because her parents believed she was possessed.

The incidents took place when the girl was still a minor, and are currently being investigated by police.

The young girl had already attempted suicide several times and in September of this year decided to end her life by throwing herself from the third floor of a building. She survived but suffered serious injuries as a result.

After that, she told the police that her parents and a religious group called Santa Maria Militia had allegedly encouraged her to flog herself with a whip and cut her own wrists.

After discussing the issue with a religion teacher, a priest in Burgos and a theology student, the parents came to the conclusion that their daughter’s mental issues were in fact a demonic possession.

They took her to the San Joaquin convent in Valladolid, were the girl underwent an exorcism, a ceremony that was repeated on 13 different occasions.

A judge has found that there is evidence of “potential gender-based violence, lesions and family abuse.”
